On October 15, 2011, the city of Tullahoma experienced significant hail damage. Hundreds of vehicles were damaged along with roofs of houses. The Tullahoma News carried an article on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, detailing what some citizens had encountered when they took the insurance money and kept their vehicle. Once the damage reaches a certain percentage of the value of the car, the insurance company will total the vehicle and pay the insured for the full value of the car. Some people chose to keep the vehicle and get a salvage title. This process has been an unseen burden for some families.
